About
My practice consists of drawing and oil painting, heavily influenced by photographic reference materials that have been sourced from social media, film and entertainment as well as my own documentations. I begin working with an idea, a word or a sentence and then I develop these thoughts through drawing in order to expand the conceptual foundation for the works.
What if masculinity was soft, tender and vulnerable? What if our male reflection could be something inspirational and approachable as opposed to threatening and confined? What are the contemporary archetypes of masculinity and femininity and what happens when they are reversed?
These are just a few of the questions I hope to provoke among viewers. I want to suggest a moment of pause and positive reflection among audience members. Each piece coneys a gentle beauty with a sense of stillness and calm, antithetical to historical perspectives of masculinity. The subjects in my work explore these ideas and embrace the notion of vulnerability.
